Hurd Brook Privy Rebuild

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: APPALACHIAN TRAIL CONSERVANCY

The effort to rebuild all of the privies along the Appalachian Trail in Maine continues. The Hurd Brook privy privy is one of four being rebuilt in 2018. Providing functional privies for hikers helps concentrate our impact on the Trail and protects it and the land it windes through.

Join the Maine Appalachian Trail Club (MATC) on Saturday, September 8 as they start they level the ground of the privy site, as well as build the structure.

The group will be car camping approximately .75 miles from the privy construction site and volunteers interested in participating on Saturday and Sunday are welcome to spend the night there. No experience needed, everyone is welcome to join in on the fun.

Be sure to wear sturdy boots, long pants, and work gloves. Also, bring your own lunch, personal snacks, a rain jacket, insect repellent, and plenty of water.

Mission Statement

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

Description

Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is a project built on civic engagement. It exists because people like you step up and help out in a variety of ways, outdoors or inside. Activities can be physical (such as Trail work or boundary maintenance), creative (like contributing photography or writing), or organizational (like planning or leading activities).

Volunteers gain new skills through their work. Whether you volunteer because you enjoy time in nature, want to forge new friendships, or appreciate having a deeper connection to a place you hold in high regard, we are glad you are here.

There are a variety of ways to contribute your talents and your time.
