ORGANIZATION: The San Diego River Park Foundation

Do you enjoy sharing your passion for the environment with others? Become a Community Outreach Volunteer with the San Diego River Park Foundation!

Our Community Outreach Volunteers connect people in San Diego and beyond to the region’s namesake waterway, the San Diego River. Volunteers will attend public events as a representative of the San Diego River Park Foundation, promoting environmental awareness and stewardship. You can play critical role in connecting the public to the San Diego River, educating people on how their actions impact the River, and recruiting volunteers for our many events!

Outreach Volunteers Will:

  • Attend, set up, and staff outreach booths at community events throughout San Diego County.
  • Increase public awareness of the San Diego River and its importance to the people of San Diego.
  • Educate the public on the San Diego River Park Foundation’s mission, current projects, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Encourage environmental stewardship through personal actions and community service.

An ideal volunteer will have the following qualifications:

  • Friendly, personable character.
  • Ability to converse with diverse audiences and ages.
  • Passion for environmental stewardship and community involvement.
  • Flexible schedule with weekend and evening availability.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation that can be used to transport supplies to events.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Mission Statement

The San Diego River Park Foundation is dedicated to fostering stewardship and appreciation of the region’s namesake waterway. In order to protect and enhance the San Diego River as a place for recreation, habitat, and nature discovery, we are dedicated to engaging people to be stewards of the River and working towards the vision of a 52 mile, river-long system of parks, open spaces, and community places.

Description

We organize many different volunteer stewardship activities each month. River Cleanups, native plant gardening, habitat restoration, volunteer leadership, water quality testing, outreach and education, special event committees, technical committees and more.
