The ideal volunteer for this opportunity is to assist participants with mental health issues learn in a retail environment.
Brief description: Work with individuals with mental illness who are participants the Volunteers of America of Florida, Bradenton Programs. Visit www.voaflorida.org/Bradenton to learn more about the programming.
Approximate Term: Sept 1 st, 2018- December 1 st, 2018 or Fall Semester (open to change)
Schedule: Flexible schedule available
Background Required: Interest in working with persons coping with mental illness
Functions & Goals to include:
- Become familiar with Volunteers of America of Florida and Manatee Retail Training Center and Manatee Programs.
- Assist participants with day-to-day functions of the Training Center including but not limited to:
- Price Items
- Schedule donation pick ups
- Facilitate the sale of items
- Interact with Program participants
- Train & Empower Program Participants/volunteers in the Center
- Onsite problem solving skills are a must
- Patience and understanding are imperative
- Must desire one on one experience with people with mental illness
- Highly organized
- Can work autonomously
- Additional customized goals/objectives will be developed with intern
*Candidates must be current students to be eligible for volunteership & must pass background screening including level II fingerprinting due to federal grant requirements.
