For the past 40 years, Hospice SLO County has depended on the generosity and time of volunteers who offer their voices for kindness, listen with ears of compassion, and open their hearts with love.
Our comprehensive 30-hour In-Home Volunteer Training will begin on Thursday, October 4. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 1 - 6 pm at Hospice SLO County in San Luis Obispo. Training dates are Oct 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov 1 & 8.
Topics include:
- Exploring personal attitudes about dying and death
- History of hospice
- Current medical and non-medical approaches to end of life care
- Communication skills
- Spiritual, practical and emotional support needs of clients and families
- Anticipatory grief and bereavement
Each participant receives a comprehensive training manual. This training is a pre-requisite for other trainings offered by Hospice SLO County, including End-of-Life Doula, Grief Companions and Community Response.
Preregistration is required. Training is free to attend.

Hospice of San Luis Obispo County (Hospice SLO County) is an incorporated non-profit 501(c)(3) agency with offices located in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles. Governed by a nine member Board of Directors, Hospice SLO County has been providing uninterrupted services since 1977 and continues to rely 100% on community donations, fundraising events, grants and bequests.
Hospice of San Luis Obispo County envisions a community that recognizes death as a part of life; where dying and grieving are embraced as natural; where all have access to support services without charge; where no one dies or is left to grieve without comfort.
