Empower your neighbors- a hand up, not a hand out
ORGANIZATION: RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) of Washtenaw County
Please visit the new page to apply.
This is a great opportunity to provide education and peer support to your neighbors who are looking to break the cycle of poverty. Volunteers love the meaningful relationships they build with the individuals they meet, and knowing they were able to make such a positive impact in someones life by teaching them valuable life skills that they can use forever.
The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program of Washtenaw County is seeking volunteers who are age 55+ to teach educational classes and life skills to those living in Ypsilanti and surrounding areas.
Volunteers are offered a 12 week class in which they can learn about the cycle of poverty and how to empower your neighbors in a non-judgemental way. Classes might include themes such as time management, problem solving, goal setting, budgeting, bill paying, or balancing a checkbook. Talk about your experiences with banking and loans, resume writing, and be a sounding board for folks to bounce ideas and questions off of. Volunteers are encouraged to be creative and share their own ideas.
If you would like to teach a valuable life skill, please email rsvp@csswashtenaw.org or call 734.712.4325. Must be age 55+
