Mission Statement

Dancing Through the Curriculum (DTC) is a nonprofit, community-based after-school and recreational program dedicated to educating and empowering youth through the art of dance and academic concept lessons.

Description

Our satellite programs in North and South Nashville allow students to learn the fundamentals of dance while also enhancing their knowledge of TN academic curriculum. Certified teachers, professional dancers, college interns, teaching artists, and volunteers provide instruction for our diverse student body in the forms of ballet, pointe, African, modern, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, tap, majorette, yoga, and tumbling. Classes run 10 months throughout the year, with a break during June and July for our "Smart Moves" summer dance camp.

DTC provides enriching experiences for youth attending "highly diverse" or "high risk" public schools. We offer academic tutoring, mini kinesthetic concept lessons, and various disciplines of dance at discounted rates. The goal is for all students to be afforded quality dance instruction and academic support. Our participants work toward meeting their academic goals while becoming more knowledgeable about the performing art of dance. We believe true education includes movement and the arts.
