Over 3,500 residents of Imperial County currently suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. In the United States, the disease kills more people than prostate cancer and breast cancer combined. 1 in 3 seniors will die from Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia. Help us help those affected by this terrible disease get the information they need to be better able to manage the disease and as well as plan for the future. Become a community educator today!
The job of the Community Educator is to deliver community education programs developed by the Alzheimer’s Association using prepared training materials provided by the Association. All topics are related to Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias as well as information that affected individuals and families need regarding learning how to recognize the signs of Alzheimer’s disease, tips for healthy aging and planning for the future. Presenters are expected to:
- Successfully complete online training, as well as individual preparation for each presentation
- Provide a minimum of 3-4 presentations per year based on Chapter need
- Refer attendees to the resources and programs of the Alzheimer’s Association as appropriate
- Act at all times as a trusted representative of the Alzheimer’s Association Education programs throughout Imperial County.
- Arrive on time
- Have reliable transportation
This is also a great opportunity for college/graduate school students looking for credit hours and experience.
Opportunities to attend community meetings, health fairs, and other special events are also available.
Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
