ORGANIZATION: Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department

We need Volunteer coaches and assistants for the Challenger Flag Football adaptive sport program! CFF has been involving youth, teens and young adults with disabilities in full-participation Flag Football for more than 10 years, and needs YOUR help to continue as a dynamic program!

Challenger Flag Football is a co-ed adaptive sport program offered by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation’s Therapeutic & Inclusive Recreation Services, and is designed for youth, teens and young adults with disabilities. The season runs from September 4 through October 26 - Practices Wednesdays - 5:30-6:30pm; Saturday games - 9:00am-12:00 noon.
The Spirit Squad involves youth, teens and young adults with disabilities in an energetic cheer program! The Spirit Squad's season also runs from September 4 through October 26 - Practice skills & drills Wednesdays - 5:30-6:30pm; Cheer for Saturday games - 9:00am-12:00 noon (confirm schedule with .

Making sure that EVERY player has a great experience takes a lot of Volunteers, so sign up TODAY!
Volunteers will assist players on the field, assist with skills & drills, and/or coach one of the teams. Dress in athletic wear, and bring your SMILE!
*You must be at least 18 years old to help with Adaptive Sports or other TIRS programs!*

To Volunteer with this awesome adaptive sport program, you must enroll in our Volunteer Program, which includes an online application and a background check.

To provide the residents of Mecklenburg County opportunities for community involvement and to increase their awareness of the Department's responsibilities, facilities and services.

Description

Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation's Mission: "Enhancing community wellness through recreation, open space, and natural resources." Our Vision is that "People who recreate in Mecklenburg County will have a system of parks, greenways, and open space located throughout the County that will provide more parkland per capita than the national average, will connect neighborhoods, satisfies public recreation needs, and will protect environmentally sensitive areas." Park & Recreation utilizes hundreds of Volunteers every year, supporting and supplementing the efforts of our staff in every area of our Department:
- Helping to care for and beautify 230 Parks and facilities, 55+ miles of Greenway and 21 Nature Preserves
- Working as registered and trained Youth Sport Coaches, Master Naturalists, Master Gardeners, SHIIP Counselors and Tutors/Mentors
- Assisting in Recreation Centers, Senior Centers and Nature Centers with programs, events and day-to-day operations
- Volunteering with Therapeutic & Inclusive Recreation Services to help provide recreation, sport and leisure programs that are accessible to everyone
