If you're like me, then you LOVE to talk! I can say, I am very much a people person. Meeting people from all over the world and hearing their stories and backgrounds is one of my favorite past times. If this sounds like something you also enjoy, then please join me at the Pico Union Library as a Conversation Teacher! WHO: If you are fluent in English conversation and like to help people, then this is for you! WHAT: You would lead a small group of adults in conversation practice. Class topics would vary from current events, food and beverage, life experiences, and more. Our teachers work with a coordinator, and have creativity on what they would like to bring to the class. WHEN: Scheduling is up to you! WHERE: Pico Union Library - 1030 S.Alvarado Street Los Angeles, CA 90006 WHY: There are so many reasons you should join us but I'll mention just a few.

  • This is a gift that keeps on giving- many of our learners are parents and active community members. Your guidance will give them an opportunity to better support their children with homework, apply for well paying jobs, and pass their knowledge onto others.
  • Libraries are cool! There are so many people to meet and fun programs to participate in. (check our our website if you don't believe me lapl.org )
  • You can explore your own interest and path. Our classes are flexible and we encourage teachers to bring their own ideas and experiences into the classroom.
*Our program is also interested teachers for reading, writing, and/or computer basics. * Please reach out if you have any questions. I hope to hear from your soon and continuing the conversation!

About Los Angeles Public Library

Location:

630 W. 5th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071, US

Mission Statement

The Los Angeles Public Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities.

Description

The Los Angeles Public Library is largest public research institution west of the Mississippi.

With more than 70 branch libraries and Central Library subject departments serving millions of Angelenos on a yearly basis, our programs are supported by thousands of volunteers in a variety of capacities. Whether providing one on one literacy tutoring, cutting out craft supplies for story time activities, helping serve summer lunch at the library, or serving as a Friend of the Library, all volunteers play a role in the work of LAPL.

If you would like to volunteer, but don't see a listing that matches your interests, please contact your local branch or the Volunteer Engagement Office. Opportunities and needs vary by location and fluctuate throughout the year.

Please note that the minimum age for volunteers is 14 (with the exception of 11-13-year-olds joining Teen Councils), minimum time commitments are required for most opportunities, adult volunteers working with children will be fingerprinted, and LAPL does not accept court-mandated community service.
