ORGANIZATION: The Meow Mission

  • 4 people are interested

We have launched a barn cat program - cats that are in danger are removed and placed in "barn" homes. The Barn Cat Coordinator will communicate with animal control, the spay/neuter clinic(s), Meow Mission volunteers, and barn cat caretakers.

The coordinator doesn't have to do any physical work, rather, coordinate the transfer of cats from animal control, the spay/neuter clinics, Meow Manor, and the new barn home. This position can be virtual and done from any computer and phone.

The coordinator MUST be detail oriented and have excellent follow through.

Estimated time needed is about 5 hours a month. Some weeks we'll have no cats, other weeks we may have several. This would be an excellent opportunity for a college student looking to gain real-world experience in the non-profit realm or someone who is physically unable to volunteer, but would like to make a difference.

This program will save dozens of cats' lives! Help us save lives and know you are making a significant difference in the cat euthanasia rate in Michiana.

About The Meow Mission

Location:

2915 E Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to: 1) humanely and proactively reduce the free-roaming cat population of northwestern Indiana/southwestern Michigan 2) eliminate the barriers free-roaming cat caretakers encounter with spaying and neutering colony cats 3) educate the community on the merits and methods of trap/neuter/return practices

Description

Michiana faces a problem most communities face - an overpopulation of free-roaming cats. A significant amount of these cats are tame, discarded pets. Feeling compassion, many families (referred to as "colony caretakers") feed these community cats. Unfortunately, a great deal of the cats are found in low-income neighborhoods. Without our intervention, these cats will continue to breed, overwhelming our city’s residents and animal control in a never-ending cycle. With your help, we are able to reach out to these kind-hearted citizens and offer them the financial support needed to spay and neuter our community’s discarded and free-roaming cats.
