Option 1

Panera Visits - FirstThursday through Monday of class

    • Will need 1 or 2 volunteers on each day.
    • Volunteers will socialize with students and take drink orders.
    • This allows the trainers more time to train them with their guide dogs.
    • Training staff is around most of the time and are in charge of the class.
    • No sighted guide required, just enjoy their company and help with drinks!

Assist with Merchandise - First Friday of class from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

    • Volunteers will help students purchase merchandise by describing items, passing them around to each person.
    • Assist with sizing and colors, etc.
    • No sighted guide required, just enjoy their company and help show merchandise.

Option 2

Outings - First Saturday or Sunday of class

    • Students can go out for any of the following outings off-campus with volunteers from 12 PM to 4:15 PM, or 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM
    • CVS/Walgreens in Smithtown
    • Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove
    • Nail Salon/Hair Salon/Barber Shop in Smithtown
    • AMC Movie Theater in Stony Brook
    • Volunteers pick up students from campus and drive to desired location
    • Students may request to be dropped off and picked up or may request having the volunteer assist/join

Option 3

Outings - First Saturday or Sunday of class

    • Students can go out for any of the following outings off-campus with volunteers from 12 PM to 4:15 PM, or 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM
    • Local Restaurant
    • Local Beach
    • Port Jefferson Village
    • Fishing Trip - Select dates only
    • Volunteers pick up students from campus and drive to desired location
    • Students may request to be dropped off and picked up or may request having the volunteer assist/join
