ORGANIZATION: Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary

Image_201807191122

The Building and Maintenance Volunteer at Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary is a versatile position that requires an adaptable temperament.

The Sanctuary is a lot like a fully functioning ranch in its scope. Nearly every type of construction occurs here, including carpentry, fencing, roofing, painting, and electrical as well as the running of heavy machinery.

At times, a single day could include several different types of construction, and all on different projects.

An applicant for this position does not need to be an expert in these fields nor do they need a ton of experience with them, though it is preferable. We offer on-the-job training, and we are willing to work with you if you have an interest.

The primary requirements are a willingness to learn, the desire to work hard, the ability to take direction, and being self-motivated on the job.

If you are interested in applying to become a Building and Maintenance Volunteer for Wild Spirit, please email your resume and a cover letter to: wswsapplications@gmail.com.

Please Note: Volunteers must be at least 21 years old to apply. There is no drug or alcohol use permitted on Sanctuary property. Animal interaction is a privilege and not a right granted to volunteers only after extensive training. Interacting with animals without express permission will result in immediate dismissal.

Mission Statement

RESCUE - SANCTUARY - EDUCATION To provide permanent, safe sanctuary for abused, abandoned, and unwanted captive-bred wolves, wolf-dogs, and other innately wild canid species rescued primarily as a result of the exotic pet trade. To educate the public about the different species cared for at the Sanctuary, the cruelties of the exotic pet trade, and the humane treatment and respect of wild animals.

Description

Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the rural, high-desert community of Candy Kitchen, New Mexico. Dedicated to rescuing displaced, unwanted, and un-releasable captive-bred wolves, wolf-dogs, and other wild canine species, including foxes, coyotes, New Guinea singing dogs, and Australian dingoes, Wild Spirit has welcomed animals from all over the United States. Each rescue is provided lifetime care through nutrition, medical support, enrichment, and animal companionship, when applicable.

Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary operates with an "Animals Come First" attitude. As an organization that predominately rescues captive-bred, wild canines as a direct result of the exotic pet trade, this is vital. Not only does Wild Spirit focus its educational efforts on informing the public about the different species, but also on the cruel realities of the exotic pet trade and what happens to wild animals when they are forced into captivity.

"Wild Animals Are Not Pets" is the motto at Wild Spirit, and that message is relayed loud and clear throughout all of the programs offered. Furthermore, Wild Spirit teaches the public about the humane treatment of wild animals, about the relationships between people and other life through respectful, compassionate co-existence, and about humanity’s important role as having the choice to be a part of the change needed to see ecosystems heal and thrive.
