East Bay Agency for Children manages the Central Family Resource Center in conjunciton with Oakland Unified School District. Families come to the Resource Center for help in accessing many services and to get many basic needs met such as food and health insurance. Many of the famlies we serve our newcomers to the US and are very intersted in learning English. We want to being a once a week basic ESL class for these families. Ideally, we would like a commitment from a volunteer to teach a two hour class once a week for 3 months.

Mission Statement

East Bay Agency for Children improves the well-being of children, youth and families by reducing the impact of trauma and social inequities.

Description

Healthy conditions are not distributed equally across our communities. Poverty, racism, and policies and laws that don’t support all families create barriers to wellness for many Bay Area families. East Bay Agency for Children’s (EBAC) mission is to improve the well-being of children, youth, and families by reducing the impact of trauma and social inequities.

EBAC’s transformational programs help children, youth, and families recover from trauma; build upon existing resilience to protect against long-term harm from past or future exposure to adversity; and when possible, prevent exposure to adverse childhood experiences.

Guided by a trauma-informed approach and learnings from its system transformation program Trauma Transformed, EBAC’s eight distinct, direct service programs include two counseling programs; a therapeutic nursery school; five Family Resource Centers; a health and wellness center, and grief support, afterschool, and youth empowerment programs.
