ORGANIZATION: Tubman

Role Summary
Collaborating with staff to support youth whose families have experienced violence, sexual
assault, exploitation, stalking, and/or harassment, our Youth and Family Advocates are
responsible for providing individualized supportive services and comprehensive advocacy to
children, youth, and families currently living at Tubman’s shelters and Transitional Housing.

Position Responsibilities
 Foster trusting relationships with children, youth, and parents while maintaining
confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries
 Promote family healing while facilitating fun field trips, activities, and respite childcare
 Communicate and collaborate with colleagues to provide coordinated services to youth
and families, following agency guidelines to administer safety planning, crisis intervention,
and additional resources and referrals as appropriate

Position Qualifications
 Enjoy working with children, have experience working with infants through age 12
 Ability and willingness to listen actively and respond respectfully and appropriately to
children, youth, and parents, and to make necessary judgments regarding health and
safety
 Excellent communication and people skills, including emotional stability and patience
 Ability to work with diverse teams and clients to foster a culturally inclusive environment
 Comfortable working under pressure, able to remain calm in response to difficult situations
Time Commitment & Availability
 Weekday, afternoon, and evening availability preferred
 Commit to 10 hours per week for a minimum of four months

For more than 45 years, Tubman has helped people of all ages, all genders, and all cultural backgrounds struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, mental health, and other forms of trauma. Throughout the Twin Cities, Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, counseling, youth programming, and community education. Last year, we helped about 17,700 people in Hennepin, Ramsey, and Washington counties and the surrounding area, get the support and information they need to experience safety, hope, and healing.
