About Advocates for Adolescent Mothers

Mission Statement

Advocates for Adolescent Mothers is committed to empowering young parents by providing them with the tools, resources, and support needed to break the cycle of poverty, establish prosperity, and prevent child abuse.

Description

Advocates for Adolescent Mothers is a budding nonprofit and social enterprise with an unprecedented approach for alleviating poverty among families headed by young parents.

We utilize a two-generation approach to accomplish our vision and mission. Current programs include a program that offers financial and socio-emotional support to young moms who are in college; an After School Matters summer program for college bound young mom high school students; a holiday drive program that distributes toys and outerwear to homeless young mothers and their children; and a longitudinal research study about homelessness among young women and children. We also have a student organization at Roosevelt University. Our Educational Empowerment Program has currently produced 3 young mom college graduates who have earned bachelor's degrees and we work each year to increase that number.

Our college support program and our research study will be replicated nationally.

In the future, we will develop and offer an evidence-based supportive housing model for homeless young mothers and their children, which will also be replicated nationally.

Advocates for Adolescent Mothers has been recognized as a Great Nonprofits Top-Rated Women's Charity since 2011. We have also earned Gold status in the Guidestar Exchange program.

Our values are respect, dignity, empowerment, excellence, cooperation, communication, and innovation.
