The Institute of Medicine of Chicago (IOMC) was formed as an independent organization of distinguished leaders in the health field who collaborate to improve the health of the public. For over 100 years, IOMC has made significant contributions to the practice of medicine and the business of healthcare. The Institute of Medicine of Chicago has 400 fellows and members drawn from all Chicago healthcare professions and industry. By remaining a neutral forum for the expression of ideas, it has brought together all members of the health care professions to discuss the greatest needs of Chicago residents and provided communication and collaboration to improve health.

Institute of Medicine of Chicago (IOMC) is committed to introducing volunteers to the breadth and depth of knowledge and resources. We are looking for a part time volunteer Financial Analyst to lend expertise to the IOMC.

Summary: Responsible for assisting in the annual budget, assisting in preparation of internal/external/regulatory reports, analyzing financial information compared to budget, assisting in maintaining allocations and chart of accounts, and maintaining and reconciling information related to various expenses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in establishing policies and procedures
  • Provide ongoing, timely and accurate analysis of monthly financial results to support month-end close processes
  • Process invoices, purchase orders, receiving reports and packing slips, date stamps documents, matches invoices to purchase orders and receiving reports
  • Participate in preparation of presentation materials for Executive management and Board reporting
  • Prepare/support preparation of monthly Financial Statements in accordance with regulator standards and within agreed upon timelines, reviewing all information against budget and back-ups to check for reasonableness, escalating any areas of concern and making amendments, if necessary.
  • Participate on projects and act as a subject matter expert to ensure financial information is reported completely and accurately
  • Build strong relationships and provide value add advice to internal stakeholders to ensure financial results are well understood and business results are optimized
  • Support committees and other work groups financial performance management activities, providing business group decision makers with financial information, advice and counsel
  • Provide information and support the process for internal audits ensuring that requests are managed effectively and efficiently complete / support the completion of all regulatory and external reporting requirements ensuring accuracy and timeliness of information
  • Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of Financial or Accounting experience
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts as needed
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; and expert level knowledge of Spreadsheet software; Accounting software and Payroll systems.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent, in Finance or Accounting preferred or 3 years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Description

The Institute of Medicine of Chicago has 400 fellows and members drawn from all Chicago healthcare professions and industry. Following in tradition, IOMC has targeted key topics for the next 24 months to further the health of Chicago area residents. In the Fall of 2017, David Satcher, MD, the 16 th Surgeon General of the United States and John Jay Shannon, MD, were key note speakers for the IOMC State of Health of Chicago Conference. They set the tone for over 100 key local and national leaders to identify critical initiatives to improve health status in Chicagoland and to outline key action steps for IOMC and partners going forward.
