Mission Statement
To revolutionize the way our students approach learning. We measure the success of students through a positive change in attitude towards learning and a subsequent understanding of the intrinsic merits of education.
Description
We have the vision of creating an environment and culture where apprentices - students who are developing identities and interests beyond the classroom - and experts - mentors who display at least one area of mastery - come together inspired to learn and to teach. Apprentices can be seen encouraging each other, working collaboratively in groups, and actively working towards personal and academic growth. Meanwhile, experts embrace all challenges with enthusiasm and patience in order to be role models for each apprentice. Apprentices will always be approached and treated as individual learners with their own unique needs, skills, and goals.
We conducted a student survey on students’ opinions of learning. The data highlighted how bored students feel with their education. Students said:
"I feel that education is boring because we should be outside [...] and learning things with hands on instead of being in a classroom in chairs."
"I feel like school is fun, it’s challenging. But when it’s boring or you think it has no purpose in your life, it’s easy to give up on this."
When asked how learning can be changed, the most common answer was to make learning "fun". Specifically, one student said "The number one thing that would help improve learning is to have more active hands on [activities] so we could be more into it."
The Space wants to improve the relationship with learning.
