Can you speak Spanish?
Do you like helping others?
Do you have a couple of free hours on Sunday?

Loyola Hospice is looking for a Spanish-Speaking volunteer who has a two hour block of time free on Sundays from either 7:00-9:00 PM or 6:00-8:00 PM. The family of this hospice patient prefers someone who is available on Sundays to watch over the patient (non-medical, be there in case of an emergency), hand things to the patient (food, beverages, TV remote control), and talk with her in Spanish.

Family lives in an apartment in Summit, IL.

You would need to undergo some training at the office located in Oak Brook before starting. Training is an introduction to hospice and an overview of the hospice philosophy, keeping safe, and what volunteers can and cannot do. This takes about six hours and is mostly watching a DVD. Background check and TB test required (all free).

Mission Statement

We are a Trinity Home Health Services agency. We serve together in the spirit of the Gospel as a compassionate and transforming healing presence within our communities.

Description

For patients experiencing life-limiting illnesses or injuries, Loyola Medicine’s hospice program provides compassionate and comprehensive care to adult and pediatric patients. Hospice care is for patients with terminal illness or injury and intended to provide comfort and relief from pain, allowing for the highest quality of life possible during the time that remains.

Loyola’s skilled doctors, nurses, therapists, chaplains and home health aides provide care that focuses not only on medical issues, but also emotional and spiritual needs. Care is provided in the patient's home, with inpatient care for symptom control and pain management provided at Loyola University Medical Center. Respite care is provided at skilled nursing facilities or at long-term care facilities in the community.

Loyola’s hospice team also provides support for the patient’s family, providing counseling, comfort and guidance on caring for your loved one with dignity. Loyola’s hospice care team is available 24/7.

Loyola’s Home Health Services and Hospice Care is a Medicare-certified, Illinois Department of Public Health-licensed home care and hospice.
