Volunteers are our best resource to help us increase the Bluebird population in Montgomery Parks!
These lovely native birds breed in nest boxes placed along "bluebird trails". Volunteers are needed to check and clean out boxes prior to breeding season (March) and to monitor nest box activity throughout the breeding season.
Unchecked boxes can be taken over by non-native birds that compete for nesting space - bad for native bird populations!
Volunteers are trained and assigned boxes, and are required to check them weekly (but on their own schedule).
**We are looking for a volunteer to train this season with an expert monitor before he moves away, and then to take over his bluebird trail next spring. The trail in question is in the Layhill Rd. area, before reaching Olney.**
