Womankind

Womankind works with survivors of gender-based violence to rise above trauma and build a path to healing. We bring critical resources and deep cultural competency to help Asian communities find refuge, recovery and renewal from domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual violence.

Womankind's Brooklyn Community Office holds monthly Movies and Communitiesevent open to the community on the last Friday of every month. After a movie screening, a discussion group is held for viewers to share their thoughts and reflect on the film.

We are seeking volunteers who can provide Mandarininterpretation during the event. The volunteer would be present throughout the duration of the screening and especially active during the discussion group.

Dates: 7/27/18, 8/31/18, 9/28/18. 10/26/18, 11/30/18, 12/21/18
Time: 4-7pm

Please email volunteer@iamwk.org with the subject "Spanish interpreter" if interested.

Mission Statement

Womankind uses the multidimensionality of our Asian heritage to work alongside survivors of gender-based violence as they build a path to healing. We are working tirelessly to create a future where we Rise Above Violence and our communities can innovate towards collective well-being, restoration, and social justice.

Description

Womankind brings critical resources and deep cultural competency to help survivors of all ages find refuge, recovery, and renewal from domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual violence. Through our programs, we offer a wide variety of services in 18+ Asian languages and dialects, including: a toll-free 24/7 multilingual helpline, safe and confidential emergency housing, culturally-informed counseling, family law and immigration legal assistance, wellness activities, creative arts therapy, support groups, and economic empowerment workshops. We are an expert in serving Asian communities, yet our services are valuable and available to all. Whether in our services or in our increasing advocacy and policy work, Womankind first centers the survivor by uplifting them to control their own lives and narratives.
