Laurel House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Stamford, CT that provides resources and opportunities for people living with mental illness to lead fulfilling and productive lives in their communities throughout Fairfield County. Laurel House provides support in the areas of education, employment, and housing, and offers opportunities for creative expression. Laurel House is seeking a volunteer to facilitate its writers’ workshop program, which meets on a weekly basis. The ideal candidate:
- Possesses strong writing, grammar, editing, and communication skills
- Has experience/education in English and writing, as well as an understanding of human development and social services
- Understands and respects the life experiences and challenges facing those living with mental illness and/or other disabilities
Weekly responsibilities include:
- Promoting a welcoming, accepting environment where participants can freely share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings through writing
- Guiding participants through writing prompts and themes, as well as the editing process
This is a volunteer position, but Laurel House will provide all materials and resources needed for the writers’ workshop. For consideration, please submit cover letter and resume to contact@laurelhouse.net

Without volunteer support, Laurel House could not achieve its mission of recovery. By being a volunteer, you are helping to make a difference in someone’s life. For many, Laurel House is their only family. Recovery takes people working together; no one can do it alone.
Currently, we are seeking volunteers for our food service and specialized workshops programs. Please apply for the food service opportunities through VolunteerMatch. If you have any special skills and would like to lead a workshop, such as art, writing, cooking, music, or tutoring, please submit a general request to contact@laurelhouse.net
