ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW Minds Matter Detroit a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting metro-Detroit high school students to reach their full potential. By providing academic resources and individualized mentor support, we enable our student to apply and be admitted to top-tier universities. Students receive SAT prep instruction, college/career exploration resources, and funding to attend academic summer programs at universities across the nation.

GRANT WRITER Minds Matter Detroit is seeking a dedicated individual to serve as our Grant Writer. As a non-profit organization, our funding comes from the generosity of our donors and the research and allocation of grants. With the program growing with more students each year, we are in need of some to research, write, and submit qualified grants. The duties include:

  • Develop/write grant proposals to foundations and grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating organization’s mission and programs to potential funders
  • Assemble/submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations
  • Conduct prospect research
  • Monitor and report progress in grant research, grant submission, and outcome to President
WHY VOLUNTEER? As part of a growing network of community leaders Minds Matter offers: * Leadership and professional development opportunities * Networking and social activities * Meaningful experiences and lasting relationships with students and team members THE COMMITMENT This position will work closely with the organization President and VP of Fundraising. Description

Minds Matter brings bright and motivated high school students together with dedicated mentors to help them achieve academic excellence, expand educational horizons and ultimately gain acceptance to college. This is accomplished in a 3-year program that includes 32 Saturday sessions (half academic and half mentoring) per year and 2 Summer program.

There are three program components that differentiate Minds Matter from other organizations: academic instruction, individualized mentoring support, and summer enrichment programs.
