We are looking for a math assistant to work in our Upper Elementary Math classroom. They would be working with 4th-6th graders who are falling behind grade level or are already below grade level. This volunteer should be able to do middle school math problems and word problems. Having a math background is necessary.

We need this volunteer approximately 2-3 days a week for 2 hours at a time. That time range is anywhere between 8:45am-2:30pm. Volunteer must have the following clearances:

            • Pennsylvania State Background Check Clearance- FREE
            • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance- FREE
            • FBI Federal Criminal History Check- $22.60
We can provide the necessary instructions for how to get these clearances if you do not already have them.

Description

Philadelphia Montessori Charter School (PMCS):

  • is a FREE, PUBLIC charter school that opened in 2004.
  • currently has 190 students enrolled in grades K-6th.
  • Is a Montessori school that focuses on the whole child, his/her cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in an environment that allows children to work with materials at their own pace until mastery. Children do not have their own desk or chair; they are free to move about the classroom and are encouraged to share space with their peers.
  • incorporates the Responsive Classroom approach. This includes a peaceful and nurturing school culture that is supported by our faculty and staff.
  • provides both learning support and an accelerated curriculum for gifted students.
  • continues to develop strong community collegiate partnerships.
