ORGANIZATION: Elk Run Farm

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Can you believe it's already JULY?! We certainly can't! Good news though, Elk Run Farm's water is back on and we need YOUR help to get us back on track with the growing season.

Elk Run Farm grows fruits and vegetables for twelve food banks of the South King County Food Coalition. We believe that all residents of South King County should have equal access to local, sustainably-grown, and nutritious produce regardless of income. The farm sits on a former golf course in the heart of Maple Valley, WA where the land would otherwise go unused. The farm helps to increase availability of healthy foods for families that visit the food bank while promoting sustainable urban agriculture.

Volunteer parties are held every Wednesdays (4-7pm) and Saturdays (10am-2pm) throughout the month of July and August. You can expect to do a variety of farming tasks like direct seeding, transplanting, watering, harvesting, infrastructure maintenance, and keeping those pesky weeds at bay, all with the guidance and direction of our farm and field manager.

These hours will continue rain or shine so please keep an eye on the weather and wear appropriate clothing or rain gear. ** Don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle, and a snack or lunch!

The farm had an entrance change this past winter. We are still located on 22500 SE 275th Pl. Maple Valley, WA 98038 but our entrance is on 228th Ave SE. Please turn into a small parking lot on 228th Ave SE, drive up the gravel road and park near our entrance gate. There are yard signs that mark the way.

Enjoy the outdoors with your family and friends and help grow healthy, farm-fresh produce for food banks in South King County!

** - Volunteer parties will be canceled if there is a heat advisory warning. Please check our Facebook (facebook.com/elkrunfoodbankfarm) for any cancellations.
