Heritage Park Docent Tour Guide

These volunteers are expected to give tours of the Park and all its exhibits to local school groups.

Tour guides may be asked to work 3-6 hours of volunteer time per week during the school year. Tour assignments will be given 1-3 weeks in advance. Docents are called on an "as needed" basis.

Education and Special Training: Docents should complete the following training at Heritage Park within the first three months of their commitment. Trainings will be scheduled by the Docent Coordinator.

• Orientation: 2 hours
• Tour Workshops: 1-2 hours (shadowing tours)
• Supervised Tour and Evaluation

Preferred Skills:

• Enjoy interacting with people, especially children
• Some knowledge of levels of development and understanding of history and social studies within K-12 students
• Should possess the ability to learn and share accurate information
• Comfort with public speaking
• Display sensitivity and understanding when working with diverse audiences
• Professional demeanor and appearance
• Should be flexible and able to improvise
• Able to command attention and lead groups
