Are you looking to get involved in community service?
Do you have teaching experience?
Would you enjoy helping adults aged 18 and over prepare to take the GED Test?

The Mother Veronica Resource Center provides GED preparation classes in English and in Spanish.
Registrants are tested or screened to assess their skill level. For those who are not yet ready to participate in the classes, we offer tutoring. We offer classes from mid-September until the beginning of June, with breaks for holidays, Tutoring, however, can be made available year-around if the student and tutor agree on this.
Usually the student and tutor meet for an hour and a half twice a week, for a total of three hours of instruction. Days and times are negotiated between the tutor and student. The Center is open Monday through Thursday for classes from 9:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Most tutoring is done within this time frame, but if necessary, tutoring can take place on Fridays up until noon. Instructional materials and guidance are provided.

Mission Statement

The Bernardine Franciscan Sisters, committed to their call to live the Gospel, established the Mother Veronica Resource Center in response to requests for assistance from Reading area immigrants. By providing various classes, tutoring and educational and social services resources for them and for all Reading area adults who come seeking a better way forward, the Center strives to improve the quality of their lives and enhance our community.

Description

History: In 1894 four Bernardine Franciscan Sisters migrated from Poland to the United States with Mother Veronica Grzedowska as the leader of the group. They were immigrants coming to a new country to work with and for other immigrants. Reading, PA was where they established their first permanent home and ministry. Throughout the years, the Sisters have cared for and responded to the requests of people in many countries and cultures. It is in this spirit that they established the Mother Veronica Resource Center in response to the requests of newcomers to our community.
Programs: English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, General Education Development (GED) preparation classes (Language Arts, Mathematics in English, Spanish), Citizenship preparation classes, Computer classes, Adult Basic Education (ABE) and GED tutoring
