Start the Journey Now to Become a Hospice Volunteer: Train in September

ORGANIZATION: Brookdale Hospice

Brookdale Hospice Volunteering is about helping in small ways that have a big impact.

Providing a couple of hours of respite to a tired family caregiver, or making a friendly visit to someone alone in a nursing facility, are not complicated activities, but these simple human niceties have a huge influence on easing a difficult time.

Patients and families facing death can feel unsettled as any new day can bring a new decline. The presence of volunteers helps to reduce that anxiety. Their gift of time allows caregivers to rest, and/or to continue normal activities, while the patient has someone new to share their stories and feelings with. And both the patient and caregiver will have an opportunity to be heard and understood in a non-judgmental way.

Being patient and reliable, as well as, a good listener are the basic skills needed. However, if you have a special skill, like massage, Reiki, Pet Therapy, cosmetology, or you speak a 2nd language, we welcome your incorporation of those activities into your hospice volunteering.

If you would like to learn more about hospice volunteering, please request an Introductory Packet, which has more details about what volunteers do and it highlights the onboarding requirements, too. As this Packet is printed,an actual US postal mailing address needs to be provided in order to send the Packet to you.

Training programs are starting in September 2018. Request an Introductory Packet now, so you’ll have time to apply for the program near you (the Packet will have details).

At any time you are welcome to ask questions about this.
