Volunteer Role Description

Volunteer Purpose and Impact
The Children Services Intern will provide valuable support to the Refugee Children’s Services program, advancing the mission of LSS-SW in showing kindness, doing justice, and serving those in need. The intern will be providing assistance for refugee youth to gain access to educational support like enrollment, transportation, and interpretation, as well as assist with events, field trips, and additional youth programming.

Responsibilities and Key Deliverables
* Provide assistance with refugee child school enrollments by picking up and/or completing enrollment paperwork, schedule interpretation for appointments, and assisting with offsite enrollments
* Complete Head Start referrals
* Plan and/or chaperone field trips as needed
* Assist with planning of events, tracking, and other support for the Refugee Youth Career Pathways
* Supervise after-school or summer programming as needed.

Qualifications
The Children Services Intern should be comfortable working with children and teenagers, as well as with people from other cultures. The intern should have strong organizational skills, and strong communication skills, both written and spoken. Prior experience working and/or volunteering with children and/or in schools preferred.

Working Conditions
Intern will be working out of an office building, and have access to a desk. Intern will mainly be seated for work.

Clearances Required & Training
Intern is required to have a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and attend an orientation. Additional training will be provided by Children’s Services Specialist.

Location & Timeframe
Intern is expected to commit to at least 4 months, August 2018 to December 2018. Weekly schedule TBD. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Office is located at 3443 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012.
