We are looking for positive role models who enjoy mentoring and supervising middle school and high school students. Volunteers will work closely with Program Coordinator to primarily help facilitate meetings, chaperone events/trip, and engage & empower participants. Training and support will be provided.

Since 1936, YMCA Youth In Government, or "YIG" for short, has given students around the country the opportunity to serve as part of a youth-run, youth-led model government process. The Florida YMCA Youth In Government program was founded in 1957, and for the past 60 years our delegates have engaged with state issues that impact their families, schools, YMCAs, and communities.

The YMCA Youth In Government program, at all levels, is designed to help delegates understand that in order to lead, you must first learn how to serve others. This practice of servant leadership guides our program. Our model government process is designed to prepare students for a life of engaged and active citizenship built on the values of civil debate, statesmanship, and research-based policy solutions. Throughout the year, students work towards attending their respective middle school or high school Assembly-where they will join together with peers from across the state to share ideas, practice communication skills, and build valuable relationships.

The Youth In Government Advisor plays a key role in shaping the experience of each participating delegate. The advisor’s job is to act as a facilitator/supervisor - helping the student leaders to meet the goals and deadlines necessary to have a complete experience.

Advisors should be able to commit to weekly meetings, attending weekend events (est. 4-5 per year), and minimal/occasional trainings or planning meetings scheduled at their convenience.
