Kindred Hospice, is recruiting volunteers to spend an hour a week with our patients. Our volunteers offer emotional support and practical assistance to patients and families in the patient's home, wherever that may be.
Duties can include helping with the activities of daily living to providing reassurance or companionship to patients and families. A volunteer might also share time with patients reading aloud, looking at photographs, going on walks, journaling or playing games like dominoes or cards. Sitting with a patient so that a caregiver has time to run errands or simply take an uninterrupted nap is very helpful.
Sometimes just sitting quietly and holding a hand is all that is needed to make a tremendous difference and provide comfort.
And, as patients near the end of their life, just being a presence beside them when family members can't be, is a blessing to all involved. Actually, the list of things a volunteer can do is only as limited as your imagination.More opportunities with Kindred Hospice
