Help us thank and celebrate our veterans with a Hog Roast picnic. We will have live entertainment and festivities, an honor guard performance, and a flag dedication ceremony. Volunteers can help with the following roles:
- Thursday, August 9, 10 am - 3 pm: 2 volunteers to assist in initial preparation of pig for Friday smoking.
- Friday, August 10, 3 pm - TBD: 1-2 volunteers, driver with pickup truck needed to pick up pig from local storage, and deliver to picnic site (247 Strader Ave.)
- Friday, August 10, 7 PM - until 11 am Saturday: 1-2 volunteers to start fire in smoker. Put pig on to smoke 7pm, and tend her all night. Bring sleeping bags, but meals will be provided be Elis BBQ. Beverages on hand.
- Saturday, 8/11, 11am - 5pm: 6 volunteers for kitchen duty, serving and grilling food.
- Saturday, 8/11, 3pm till food gone: 8 volunteers for kitchen duty, serving and grilling food.

The program brings together a group of gardening and social service professionals to provide weekly horticulture experiences for veterans.
Description
One of our goals is to reconnect veterans with not only a sober leisure activity but with the healing potential of the natural world. In addition Veterans will be provided with simple, hands-on culinary experiences to help them learn how to cook produce harvested from the garden and enjoy the benefits of fresh, unprocessed foods.
