Door to Grace is a faith based non-profit here in Portland, OR. We are a mentoring program that works with girls who have been or might be at-risk for becoming sexually exploited. The hope of our mentoring program is to form lost lasting and positive mentoring relationships with these girls. The way that we accomplish this is by having evening activities (currently right now our big night is Wednesday and we call this Programming). However, we are also open on select days Monday and Tuesdays. On programming day’s both the girls and volunteers who desire to be mentors will come and participate in group together and we finish the night by having dinner. Through these meetings both the girls and the mentors are able to get to know each other in an organic and hopefully non-threating way. The hope is that through this time of gathering the girls will be able to identify an adult they would like to spend more time with outside of the Day Home. Thus a trusting mentoring relationship is formed.
There are multiple ways for individuals to get involved besides Mentoring! Please check out the list below or email us at info@doortograce.org
Our "Day Home" functions similar to a Day Shelter where the girls are able to come by or ask for assistance during the day (8am-5pm) and we would be able to assist them in whatever they need. Whether that is a safe place to be, get food, needed supplies, or a familiar face to take them to appointments. We do not house any of the girls. They either live in apartments, shelters, residential, treatment facilities, or group homes. Anyone can refer a youth to our program (go online to get involved and then click on make a referral). We primarily receive referrals from the Department of Human Services (DHS)

Other ways to get involved at Door to Grace that isn’t as time consuming includes: teaching a group to the girls, cleaning up the day home, providing a dinner, stocking our supplies, or volunteering to clean up our donation room.

Those interested in mentoring would be ideally available to volunteer their time during our programming days as well as outside of the Day Home once they have made a match with a youth. At least two times per month outside of availability at the Day Home.

Mission Statement

Bringing safe and loving family to sexually exploited children.

Description

Door to Grace began its long journey way back in 2009 when a group of individuals came together after learning about the truth of child exploitation happening right here in Portland, OR. Fast forward to 2018 we are a non-profit that focuses on providing and connecting youth to positive role models from their own community. We have the mentor and youth meet and interact at our Day Home which is located in Portland, OR and the hope is through interactions that are made at the Day Home youth will safely engage in a healthy relationships with a mentor. Programming happens on select Monday, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
We are a faith-based or faith-lead organization meaning that our staff and volunteers agree and sign a statement of faith however, we do not in any way impose our faith values on the youth. Our heart and primary focus is to provide youth with an individual who can encourage youth who have a history or are at-risk of sexual exploitation.
