Summer of Service ( Riverside )

ORGANIZATION: Southern California Hospice Foundation

Join the Southern California Hospice Foundation this summer for our Summer of Service!

Summer of Service aims to serve our friends in hospice through a combination of direct service and community outreach.

Direct Service
Hospice volunteer:

  • Donate your time and positivity
  • Play card games
  • Share stories
  • Listen to music together
  • Bring your therapy animal
Being a hospice volunteer is being a friend when a friend is needed.

Community Outreach:

Conducting an interview with SCHF after the volunteer service to speak about the experience.

  • This is open to those who have volunteered in the past and to new volunteers!
By the end of this project we would like to compile all the interviews for a new video for our website to inspire others to volunteer, and to show the beauty of volunteering in hospice.

Timeline

Phase one:

The volunteer will meet with SCHF’s volunteer coordinator to discuss what hospice is, and what hospice volunteering looks like. If the volunteer would like to continue with the Summer of Service project, he or she will be placed as a volunteer for a hospice patient.

Phase two:

The volunteering begins!
Whether it is one visit or one-hundred visits, we are thankful for your service to others. :)

Phase three:

At the end of the volunteer service, we invite all of our volunteers to come back to our office so we can interview them about their experience.

Healing hearts Initiative- For volunteers who want to provide their special talent or service ( such as singing or bringing in a certified therapy animal) , SCHF creates a memorable experience by working hand in hand with the volunteer to tailor their talent/services for our patients.
