Veteran Support: Provide support to Veterans by listening, sitting quietly, provide companionship, reading to the Veteran, or doing a similar / approved activity.

Provide support to family members by listening.

Assist with non-medical care only. Keep Veteran’s room tidy, water plants and flowers as requested.

Schedule can be flexible; exact schedule to be decided upon by Veteran volunteer and the Volunteer Coordinator.

Help with our We Honor Veterans Program, a program that teaches respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgement - to comfort patients with a history of military service and possibly physical or psychological trauma.

Visit Veterans on Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Visit veterans in their homes, nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, etc.

Participate in Veteran Honoring Ceremonies; including planning and day of event activities; distribute commemorative honoring certificates, escorting guests to their seats, etc.

Make Veteran Day cards or other similar honoring cards for Veterans.

Maintain regular communication with the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, including submission of documentation/record of interaction(s) at least weekly.

Willingness and ability to perform tasks, when requested and as approved by the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG).

Maintain regular contact with the patient and family; visit with the patient and family at regular intervals as per the plan of care developed in conjunction with the needs of the patient and family.

Notify the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator/ designee when there is any change in situation that could affect the patient’s care, there is a need for a substitute volunteer, the volunteer takes a leave of absence, or discontinues services, etc.

Contacts hospice staff with any questions or concerns regarding patient status.

Access to dependable and readily available transportation.

Successful completion of the Hospice Volunteer Training program.

Up-to- date vaccinations and paperwork in volunteer personnel file.

CPR Certification.
