Be personally rewarded, intellectually inspired, and gain a greater understanding of your San Diego community. Be a mentor!
Youth Assistance Coalition seeks to match currently homeless and formerly homeless youth ages 12-25 with compassionate, committed, and responsible adult mentors. The purpose of our mentoring program is to support our youth through positive socialization experiences, academic or vocational assistance, and unbiased guidance.
A YAC mentor is an open-minded, supportive, and trustworthy person. Our mentors guide, listen, coach and are positive role-models for his/her mentee. Mentors encourage their mentees to increase personal wellness and help develop future goals.
These individuals are the heart of our program. They engage with the youth, provide encouragement, and convey acceptance that may not be received from anyone else. Youth mentor volunteers are asked to commit one year for this role. This commitment length is essential to ensuring consistency and long-term relationships with youth. Suggested interactions will include weekly check-ins by phone, and in-person meet ups twice per month.

Mission Statement
To positively impact the lives of youth experiencing homelessness through empowerment, mentorship, and community collaboration in order to provide transformative opportunities.
Description
Youth Assistance Coalition was founded in 2017 by a group of motivated volunteers who saw the pattern of youth homelessness in San Diego and wanted to break it. From the beginning, YAC has focused on a community approach to breaking this pattern, and has built up powerful partnerships with many other organizations in San Diego who are also committed to helping these youth get off the street in a lasting way.
We are a 100% volunteer-run organization, and we rely on the support and kindness of our community to be able to provide much-needed services to San Diego's homeless population.
