As a Pet Therapy Volunteer you will be assigned to visit patients in your own community. You bring your special skills and special friends to offer love and joy to our Hospice patients and their families. You help make final wishes come true. You and your pet are celebrities! Crowds in long term care facilities actually gather when they hear you might be coming today. But the patient, most of all, looks forward to your visit as they may be bed-bound. Often, you are their hope.
Helping to care for our patients and families is a critical role played by our volunteers. Volunteers in hospice provide in-home services to patients currently being served by Atlanta Family Hospice.
Because of the direct patient and family interaction, all of these positions require Patient Care and Family Support volunteers to go through specialized orientation. This process teaches you about hospice and terminal illness and helps prepare volunteers to interact with and support our patients and families.

About Atlanta Family Hospice
Location:

Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide the highest quality individualized care to patients who face life-limiting illness. We believe the patient and family are one. We extend our support and services to our patients, their families, caregivers, and the communities we serve.
Description
Hospice isn't a place, it is a philosophy and level of extraordinary care. We focus on serving patients at end of life, with a prognosis of six months or less to live, if the disease runs its normal course. Hospice is palliation of pain and system management, not curative focused. We have an interdisciplinary rather than hierarchy approach, to meet the goals and expectations of our patients, as well as their family. Our team consists of Volunteers, nurses, physicians, certified nursing assistants, mastered prepared licensed medical social workers, non-denominational chaplains and spiritual care coordinators, as well as bereavement coordinators and our community partners.
