Redemptive Work is looking for Narrative Copywriters to assist in our work with displaced, disabled, formerly incarcerated, or other socially outcast persons to create sustainable living situations.

What does a Narrative Copywriter do?

A Narrative Copywriter is the voice of a client's story. Clients attend clinics which generate a clinical summary of the person's life story. We need writers to translate these clinic notes into success stories, failure stories, and truth-telling stories of life for the displaced and unemployable. These stories will be used in fundraising, friend-raising, brand building and other venues to raise awareness of the plight of those trapped in poverty by unjust social structures.

They will also be responsible for helping to shape the overall story and express client dialogue in moving and meaningful ways. It’s important for the Narrative Copywriter to understand the tone and world of the client, as they’ll be writing a lot of the small touches that could make or break the experience for the reader. As a job, it’s a real labor of love that combines a dedication to writing and a passion for equality and justice.

For this role, you will need to:

  • Have a creative and intelligent writing style
  • Be able to create text and dialogue that tells a client's RW story
  • Understand what makes human services appealing to different audiences
  • Possess excellent imagination and creativity
  • Capture the dramatic story behind clinical records
  • Have excellent communication and presentation skills

We are looking for our Narrative Copywriter to produce one client story a week, for use on social media platforms, and future use on our website and in promotional materials. We anticipate that this will require 1-3 hours a week commitment.

This role is ideal for professionals in the field wishing to volunteer and students majoring in journalism, English, communications, or any individual interested in narrative or literature.

Mission Statement

Making sustainable living a reality for displaced or seemingly unemployable persons.

Description

Redemptive Work (RW) is dedicated to making sustainable living a reality for displaced and seemingly unemployable persons.

RW serves homeless, previously incarcerated, and disabled persons navigating barriers to sustainable living. Our work began when Rev. Dr. Tina Carter joined RW Executive Director Rev. Dr. Mindy Johnson-Hicks in writing The Wealth of Poverty (Outskirts Press, 2013); an exploration of the ways authentic relationships across socio-economic groups enables collective prosperity. During this collaboration, it became apparent that under-served populations of homeless, previously incarcerated and disabled people shared common barriers to finding employment, housing, and healthcare. RW incorporated in 2013 to learn to navigate those barriers. We meet with people weekly, one-on-one, to discuss goals and strategies necessary to achieve sustainability beyond societal barriers. People need adequate work, safe shelter and access to health care and we are here to ensure a community is present to help them find all three. We also help people overcome obstacles by coaching them to fill out forms for jobs or obtaining a Driver's License or Social Security Card, government benefits. We help people face the challenges that so often prevent marginalized persons from re-engaging in society in a sustainable way. We also help our clients to understand what their strengths are instigating self-advocacy in a profoundly disenfranchising system.
