Managing Director - Europe

CheckOrphan provides a very rewarding atmosphere. Every day you will have the opportunity to make a difference in the world for people with rare diseases. We are looking for a volunteer, who will be willing to head up our European team and oversee our team of volunteers and interns.

Our staff will rely on your leadership and your ability to motivate and mentor them, as well as, help them trouble shoot their problems. Many of the people we have on staff are transitioning from the laboratory to a desk job and CheckOrphan provides that opportunity to develop their career path and gain the experience they need, while ensuring the many CheckOrphan tasks are executed.

You will have the opportunity (optional) to travel to conferences, network, and do business development for CheckOrphan. CheckOrphan is media and as such we can apply for a media pass and obtain free access to most conferences.

Responsibilities:

• Work hours/days: at least 3 days a week, but times/days are flexible
• Use your experience to plan and build better long-term strategies for CheckOrphan
• Onboard and train new volunteers and interns - assess their skills and provide them with projects that will help them obtain the experience they need
• Oversee: media monitoring team, social media team, event partnerships, and the team that works on science writing and updating of CheckOrphan content
• Work on expanding CheckOrphan’s outreach
• Organize board meetings
• Ensure SOPs for each project are updated so that best practices are passed on
• (Optional) Fundraise by applying for, or coordinating, grant submissions for funding for CheckOrphan projects
• (Optional) Attend conferences in Europe that will allow you to find new partnerships and business development opportunities for CheckOrphan
