Mission: A regional healthcare leader and influencer, Good Samaritan Project (GSP) provides inclusive, holistic, and integrated health and wellness services to individuals affected by HIV & other STIs, LGBTQ communities, and those seeking a welcoming and affirming health & community center.

Grant Writer Purpose:

The position of the grant writer serves an important role for GSP helping to secure funding for programs and services for individuals with HIV/AIDS and other STI’s. The person in this role will also support the organization’s mission of providing a welcoming and affirming place for all.

Qualifications, skills, and characteristics requested:

  • Craft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Excellent writing, analytical and research skills are essential.
  • Skilled at researching and identifying grant opportunities based on funding amount needed, alignment of priorities, location and project.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and highly-organized.
  • A high level of computer literacy required.
  • Ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct form.
  • Understanding of budgets as they relate to grants.
  • Able to work with deadlines and meet them.
  • Because this position will be both in the office and virtual, the volunteer must be an independent worker, who has good follow- through.
  • Volunteer should have a working phone number and email address he/she checks regularly.

Reports to: Director of Development

The volunteer will work collaboratively with the Director of Development.

Time Commitment: The commitment is weekly with a minimum of 5-10 hours per week.

Location: The bulk of time will be spent remotely. Good Samaritan Project is located at 3030 Walnut Street, KCMO, 64108. Once a week, at a minimum, the volunteer and Director of Development will meet face to face during normal office hours (Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m).

Agree to a background check.
Sign a confidentiality agreement form.
Friendly, positive, professional demeanor.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.

Description

Good Samaritan Project has served those affected by HIV/AIDS and STDs in the Kansas City area since 1985. We provide case management, mental health counseling, education, prevention and outreach to the community. We have an on-site primary care clinic which is managed and staffed by Truman Medical Center.
