ORGANIZATION: ReSOURCE: A Nonprofit Community Enterprise

ReSOURCE is an innovative non-profit with a mission to meet community and individual needs through (1) education and job skills training, (2) environmental stewardship, and (3) economic opportunities. Its operations are largely funded through reuse sales. The Small Electronics Intern supports reuse by testing, pricing, and fixing electronics (monitors, stereos, video game systems, etc.)

This is a 90-hour position that reports to the IT Manager.

Goals of Position

  • Effectively test & price electronics (monitors, DVD players, stereos, video game systems etc.)
  • Oversee E-Waste collection
  • Assist in picking up donations
  • Assist customers with electronics & computer selection

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (spelling, grammar and punctuation).
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
  • Computer knowledge and experience a big plus
  • Ability to stand, bend and sit throughout the work day.
  • Ability to walk up and down a flight of stairs regularly throughout the work day.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to read, write and perform simple math to complete paperwork and customer transactions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to supervise others in a professional, friendly and direct way.
  • Ability to arrive for work on time and maintain acceptable attendance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff in English.
  • Ability to manage priorities to meet multiple commitments.
  • Ability to concentrate and think through given responsibilities.
  • Ability to learn new and innovative ways to help ReSOURCE support its mission.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace, high energy environment.

Description

In pursuit of our goals, ReSOURCE works to create:

Environmental Stewardship: Reuse rather than recycle. One result of this stewardship is the 1,115 tons of materials ReSOURCE diverted from the landfill last year.

Educational Training: Building employment skills. All of our Departments and stores are learning classrooms and much of this training would not be possible without our Environmental Stewardship that provides the training materials and learning opportunities.

Economic Opportunity: Providing essential goods and services. Through our effective programs and success at Environmental Stewardship and Educational Training, we are able to offer the Essential Goods Program and donate necessary items to families in need, as well as offer refurbished items at an affordable price to the general public. In addition, our retail operations help support our stewardship and training efforts, which lead to gainful employment for our graduates. Last year we were able to give away more than $100,000 worth of household goods, building materials, and large appliances to low income individuals and those in need, including $14,000 to victims of the flooding.
