Position Title: Seasoned Mother Volunteer

Position Overview: The Seasoned Mother Volunteer at The Chrysalis Program plays a crucial role in mentoring and supporting younger mothers, contributing to the success of parent group conversations, and assisting in various programming activities, including Summer Camp and Saturday Sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mentoring Younger Mothers:

    • Provide guidance, encouragement, and support to younger mothers within The Chrysalis Program community.
  2. Parent Group Conversations:

    • Facilitate and contribute to parent group discussions by sharing personal experiences, insights, and practical advice.
  3. Summer Camp Assistance:

    • Assist in planning and coordinating activities during the Summer Camp, fostering a positive and engaging environment for both mothers and children.
  4. Saturday Sessions Programming:

    • Contribute to the development and execution of Saturday Sessions programming, ensuring a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants.
  5. Collaboration with Program Staff:

    • Work collaboratively with program staff to integrate the Seasoned Mother Volunteer role into overall program objectives.

Qualifications:

  1. Experienced Mother:

    • Must be a seasoned mother with a wealth of parenting experience and a genuine desire to support others.
  2. Effective Communicator:

    • Strong communication skills with the ability to actively listen, empathize, and convey ideas effectively.
  3. Reliable and Punctual:

    • Demonstrate reliability and punctuality in attending scheduled events, meetings, and programming sessions.
  4. Positive Role Model:

    • Serve as a positive role model for other mothers within the program, embodying values of empathy, resilience, and community.

Time Commitment: The Seasoned Mother Volunteer role may involve a flexible time commitment, including attendance at parent group meetings, Summer Camp sessions, and Saturday Sessions programming.

Training and Support: Volunteers will receive training and ongoing support from program staff to enhance their effectiveness in the Seasoned Mother Volunteer role.

The Chrysalis Program cultivates self-love and acceptance, instill purpose, and support the well-being of black women, girls, and families through wellness, life skills, and creative arts programming.

Description

The Chrysalis Program seeks to reduce or eliminate the effects of childhood trauma for African American girls and their families on Chicago's South Side and beyond.

The Chrysalis Program creates safe spaces for girls to heal, learn and grow by offering Wellness Workshops, Counseling, Life Skill Classes, Creative Arts Lessons, Parent Classes, Enrichment Field Trips, Mentorship and Community Events.

​The Chrysalis Program is unique because it takes a holistic approach to empowering; teaching both life skills and coping skills that gradually improves the quality of life for participants and their families.
