ORGANIZATION: Table to Table

Purpose/Objective: Support Table to Table staff and volunteers.

Location: Table to Table

Key Responsibilities: answer phones, greet volunteers and guests, assist with reoccurring onsite food donations, maintain and tidy reception area, help with other office projects as assigned, and be a welcoming presence.

Qualifications: Great verbal communication and interpersonal skills, self-motivated with the ability to problem solve, independent worker.

Time Commitment: regular weekly shift, 2-4 hours per week

Training & Support Provided: Introduction to Food Rescue and Table to Table’s programs and training for key responsibilities provided by Table to Table staff

Benefits: Get involved with food rescue in your community, work with a variety of volunteers, gain skills by taking on independent projects

To keep wholesome, edible food from going to waste by collecting it from donors and distributing it to those in need through agencies that serve the hungry, homeless, and at risk populations.

Description

Table to Table is a United Way agency of Johnson County.

Volunteers are an essential element of our organization and provide the means for us to pursue our mission. By keeping food from going to waste, we help these agencies in their efforts to help those in need. Whether the agency we deliver to prepares a meal or distributes groceries, this rescued food is making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Since 1996, Table to Table has rescued over 20 million pounds of food that would have otherwise gone to waste. This year alone, the volunteers have rescued 2.5 million pounds of food. Donations are collected from 80 local grocery stores, bakeries, dairies, restaurants, schools and businesses. 50 local social service agencies receive donated food distributed through Table to Table. Each 1.5 pounds of donated food provides an equivalent meal to someone in need. This year, Table to Table saved social service agencies over $6 million in Johnson County.

Table to Table is Iowa's original food rescue organization. We specialize in "rapid response" retrieval of fresh and perishable foods; we pick up and deliver the donated food items to recipient agencies in the same day.
