Seattle Audubon's Junior Naturalist program provides volunteer leadership opportunities at Nature Camp for high school teens entering 10th-12th grade. Junior Naturalists work closely with adult staff Naturalists to teach about birds and nature. They help supervise campers, lead games and songs, read stories, and lead at least one group activity per week.

Explorer West Middle School (EWMS) is Nature Camp's home base in West Seattle. A typical week includes plenty of outdoor exploration around EWMS, two off-site field trips to places like Lincoln Park, Vashon Island, and Pritchard Beach, and lots of nature-themed games and activities. A training and orientation can be scheduled to meet the needs of the volunteer.

We request that Junior Naturalists volunteer for at least two full weeks, but many choose to volunteer for several weeks if space is available. This year we are offering internship opportunities for high schoolers entering 11th or 12th grade. The application process is rolling; we accept Junior Naturalists throughout the summer if positions are available!

Interested individuals should fill out the Junior Naturalist application found here: http://www.seattleaudubon.org/sas/About/EnvironmentalEducation/NatureCamp/JrNaturalist.aspx

Mission Statement

Seattle Audubon leads a local community in appreciating, understanding, and protecting birds and their natural habitats. We envision a healthy environment in balance with nature, where people enjoy, respect, and care for the natural resources that sustain the community of life.

Description

Founded in 1916, Seattle Audubon is Washington's oldest natural history organization, and one of the state's most active. Much of our success is due to the strong environmental spirit of Seattle-area residents and to the hundreds of volunteers who annually contribute thousands of hours toward the mission and the activities of Seattle Audubon.
Our primary programs are Education, Conservation, Science, Community Engagement, and The Nature Shop.
