Casper Police Department operates a 24 hour Crisis Response Unit, utilizing volunteer victim advocates to respond to a scene after normal work hours, weekends and holidays. We respond to victims of all crimes, as well as traumatic events such as natural death and suicide survivors. Volunteers offer referral services, safe shelter and provide compassionate services for those suffering from a traumatic event. Volunteers work one week a month and are on call from 6 pm to 6 am and 24 hours over the weekend. Advocates receive 40 hours of training and go through a field training program with trained advocates before attending to a scene by themselves. The Crisis Response Unit is a vital part of the Victim Service Unit within the department and provides valuable support to victims on scene. Volunteers work closely with the Victim Services Director and staff as well as officers at a scene and they must be able to communicate well, handle stressful situations and make decisions quickly.
