General Expectations:

The general expectations of this position include the responsibilities shared by all staff and volunteers of Lutheran Services of Georgia (LSG). These obligations include understanding and performing in accordance with the values of LSG; endeavoring to provide quality services to clients of LSG; striving to find new, efficient, effective and economical ways to perform tasks; performing job duties in a thorough, accurate and timely manner; cooperating with others in the team; meeting attendance and punctuality standards; conducting business in a professional, courteous and tactful manner; demonstrating respect for the privacy of clients and employees; taking precautions to prevent accidents; and embracing diversity and respect for the cultural differences among clients and other staff.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

* Provides direct services to/for LSG clients as assigned in a professional, courteous and caring manner.

* Assists with screening potential clients through LSG’s intake forms and process.

* Accompanies Case Manager on initial home visits for intake and assessments.

* Assists with recovery service plan delivery, including making referrals, checking in with client, and documenting service provision updates.

* Ensures that any services provided to the client are documented in case notes.

* Ensures all who need a particular service receive it in a timely manner.

* Relays all requests and messages from the clients to the Case Manager promptly and accurately.

* Submits to each Case Manager all documentation required to prove that services have been provided. This may involve copying original documents.

* Maintains all records in an accurate, complete, confidential manner as assigned by the Case Manager.

* Maintains personal and professional boundaries in the performance of the job.

* Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the practitioner and to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the persons served or other family members.

* Participates in in-service training and conferences related to refugee services.

* Participates in LSG functions.

* Participates as a team player with staff.

* Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

Qualifications:

* Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate internship program.

* Ability to work unsupervised in field settings with challenging population.

* Documented experience planning and organizing appointment schedules.

* Experience or strong desire in working with people from a variety of cultures and ethnic backgrounds.

* Excellent time management skills.

* Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, email, and Internet.

* Ability to forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families in which they are helped to gain the skills and confidence to address any issues and problems they face.

* Conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change.

* Ability to work in partnership with other team members.

* Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the practitioner and to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the persons served or other family members.

* Preferred to own a safe and reliable personal multi-passenger (minimum 3 plus driver) vehicle, hold a valid Georgia Driver’s license and appropriate personal auto insurance, and have a good driving record.

Time Commitment: 12-40 hours/week, minimum 120 hours/semester

Comments: This position is unpaid. Intern will be reimbursed for agency-related mileage excluding mileage accrued driving to and from internship site.

LSG has provided services ranging from adoption, foster care and family support services, to refugee assistance, disaster response disability support for adults, and after school programs.

Through combining the resources of staff, financial donors, various governmental agencies, volunteers, and Lutheran congregations, LSG is able to bring quality programs and services to the people of Georgia. There are volunteer opportunities in the surrounding areas of Atlanta, Albany, Athens, Augusta, Columbus, Rome and Savannah.
