How much difference can an hour make?

By fourth grade, children who are behind in reading tend to fall further behind in school in all subjects and are at a high risk of dropping out in the future. But by spending one hour a week reading with a child, you can help ensure a child reaches proficiency, keeping them level with their peers - and making a difference that will be felt for the rest of their lives.

You don’t need experience, you don’t need to be a teacher, and you don’t even need a college degree. All you need is time and patience and a good heart. If you have an hour a week to give and you’re 55 or older, consider joining RSVP Trailblazers. Our volunteers can help at any school in the county. Our opportunities aren’t just limited to reading, or to elementary school - if you want to help at another grade level or in another subject, we can definitely use you!

RSVP Trailblazers is a Senior Corps program for adults over 55 that connects volunteers with area schools. Volunteers must pass a background check. Just respond to this advertisement and then look for an email from someone at United Way, or leave a phone number for us to contact you.
