Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity
Eliminating poverty housing one family at a time.

Serve on a Committee Construction/Real Estate, Family Services, Development, Community Relations (volunteers & faith relations) These committees are what helps the organization move forward and accomplish our mission. Construction/Real Estate Joint committee (Every other Month, 1 st Thursday at 3:00 p.m.)

  • Leads in the construction of houses
  • Creates house plans consistent with good practice in construction efficiency, energy efficiency, and handicap accessibility
  • Coordinates construction schedules
  • General oversight of construction, material procurement, and worksite safety
  • Works with the Real Estate committee to evaluate potential sites
  • Leads in acquiring building sites within parameters defined by the Board of Directors
  • Identifies and investigates potential properties
  • Works in conjunction with the Construction committee to evaluate the suitability of potential sites
  • Recommends properties to the Board for acquisition
Community Relations, Faith Relations, Volunteer Committee (meets as needed)
  • Leads in communicating with the public regarding the mission and program of Habitat
  • Advocates for public policy and practices favoring the availability of affordable housing
  • Leads in a program of neighborhood engagement to inform neighbors in areas where Habitat houses are to be built
  • Leads in promoting relationships with churches and other faith groups
  • Promotes and encourages financial and volunteer support
  • Promotes and assists the formation of covenant church relationships and sponsorships by churches and faith groups
  • Leads in recruiting persons to serve as volunteers in construction, in committee work, and in other Habitat service
  • Provides opportunities for training of volunteers as needed and creates opportunities for recognizing and expressing gratitude for volunteer service
Development Committee (meets as needed)
  • Leads in creating numerous efficient and compelling opportunities for donors to support Habitat for Humanity and making the experience of giving satisfying
  • Implement and coordinate contributed income programs in a diverse and balanced program of fundraising
Family Services (every other Month)
  • Leads in the selection of, and services to, partner families
  • Recommends applicants to the Board of Directors for approval
  • Provides a program of homeowner education for partner families
  • Drafts selection criteria used to select families and adopts family selection guidelines consistent with applicable fair housing and non-discrimination law and practice
