Adult ESL is a weekly, 90-minute, ongoing program designed for English Language Learners.

Lessons focus on reading to improve vocabulary, speaking to improve pronunciation, and listening to improve comprehension. Lessons have every day, functional English in mind.

Lessons are led by volunteers and follow-up digital materials are available for interested students. Curriculum comes from ESLlibrary.com. No previous ESL experience is necessary and lessons are planned and provided to volunteers by the library program facilitator.

Classes meet both in-person at Johnston Public Library, 6700 Merle Hay Rd., and online using the Zoom app, for those who prefer to join virtually.

Volunteers joining online must have a computer equipped with a camera and a microphone. Cellphones and tablets do not work well for interaction via Zoom. Online volunteers will receive training in how to use Zoom.

Interested volunteers are asked for a six-month commitment.

Classes are free and no registration is required.
