After-School All-Stars (ASAS) North Texas provides after-school programs for underserved youth in Dallas. We need approximately 10-15 volunteers to visit one of our six school sites, and lead small-groups of students in a hands-on, STEM challenge called "WonderKits"

During the WonderKit, volunteers will work in small groups with students on a STEM-based activity. Volunteers will help facilitate conversation between the All-Stars and encourage the students to think creatively about a solution. For example, for the "Create-A-Pult" activity, each team creates a catapult to launch an object using materials such as wooden sticks, tape, plastic spoons, pompom balls, and rubber bands. The team that launches the object the farthest or the most accurately will win the competition. In conclusion, the ASAS staff will lead facilitated discussion about the STEM-based lesson learned from the activity.

WonderKit opportunities will be ongoing and available at all six ASAS school sites in the following neighborhoods throughout the 2018/2019 school year:

  • North Dallas
  • Oak Cliff
  • South Oak Cliff
Volunteers are needed from 3:45-5:30. This is a great opportunity for you office, department, or small team to volunteer together. We are flexible with dates, and will work with you to schedule the best time for your team!
