Join us at the beautiful Franciscan Monastery (NE Washington DC) to help tear down their farm for the end of the season. Franciscan Monastery is a generous donor of produce that is used to create community meals at DC Central Kitchen. These nutritious meals are sent out to 80 social service agencies around Washington, DC.
Volunteers should bring lots of water and plan to glean crops from 9am - 12 pm or until the crop runs out.
Dress Code
Please wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, socks, long sleeves and, in general, dress appropriately for the weather. Sunscreen, bug repellent and hats are strongly recommended for all volunteers.
Transportation
The Franciscan Monastery is located at 1400 Quincy Street, NE. There is a parking lot (no charge) on the corner of 14th & Quincy Streets, NE which is across the street from the Monastery’s entrance.
The closest Metro station is via the Red Line’s Brookland/Catholic University of America (CUA). Upon arrival, please either transfer to the H6 bus - direction "Fort Lincoln" and disembark at 14th & Quincy Streets, NE or walk up hill on Newton Street, NE to 14th Street, NE and turn left for 14th & Quincy Streets NE (approximately 15 walk).

DC Central Kitchen prepares over 5,000 meals each day with donated food from area food service businesses. DC Central Kitchen also trains unelmployed men and women in the culinary arts.
